Ashburton River Trails

In 2010 the Mid Canterbury Mtb Club were kept busy clearing 25 km of old trail next to the Ashburton/Hakatere River. Running from town to the coast the original track was developed back in the 1980's but had been neglected. Increasing mtb traffic created demand for it be returned to its former glory. The Ground Effect Slush Fund bought the club a brush cutter to help do the job. 

The Club has now become Mountainbike Ashburton and manages three local riding areas: Ashburton Mtb Loop; ACL Skills Park; and the River Walkway.
