Care and feeding of your Platypus Bladder.
>
A diet of pure water is best as the Platypus may absorb flavours from other beverages. For a cool drink in summer you can lay your half-full Platypus on its side in the freezer over night then pull it out just before your ride.
>
To clean, use hot soapy water and rinse thoroughly with hot water. For tough cleaning jobs, add 1/4 cup of baking soda to 3/4 water and shake for 30 seconds. Add 1/4 cup of lemon juice, shake for 10 seconds and vent holding away from face. Repeat 3 times. Expel as much air as possible then leave for 20 minutes. Rinse with hot water. Warning: Adding lemon juice to baking soda makes it fizz so don't leave your bladder unattended for too long.
>
Your Platypus bladder can suffer from 'wear and tear'. The bladder can become brittle and start to crack or remnants of your favourite go-fast juice may begin to colonise the bladder and hose. You should reckon on replacing the bladder and/or hose around every 12 months. Replacements are cheap at NZ$25 for the Bladder only. The Valve or Elbow for NZ$10. Hose with Elbow and Bite Valve for $20. Or the whole enchilada can be purchased for NZ$49.
Which way is up for the Platypus Bladder?
>
The bladder goes back in with the screw-top at the bottom. This is where the hose exits so you can rely on a steady flow of liquid to quench your thirst.
