Waiheke MTB Club

The Waiheke Mountain Bike Club is a nonprofit organisation, made up of volunteers from the local community. The club has been formed to create and implement a strategic plan for fostering the development of mountain-biking activity on the island for both residents and visitors, with particular emphasis on family groups. To date the volunteers have clocked up over 1000 hours worked, primarily on the implementation of the trail network at the Onetangi Sports Park.

The call went out for IMBA books from the club as they were working on a new trail. They have also embarked on a mission to go over the whole trail network on the island, currently about 7km and fix, widen, upgrade etc. The Slush Fund wrote a cheque for $1000 to purchase tools and a first aid kit for the club, and topped this up by $600 to help out with the purchase of signage.

I have been to Waiheke Island via that lovely ferry ride back in 2013. I think this bike track didn’t exist back then. This place is great for Mountain bike trails as lots of rural roads very little urban traffic too. One bus service runs , so most of the locals either have a car or walk!
