Big River to Waiuta Track Upgrade

The Big River-Waiuta track is about to receive some overdue love, courtesy of the Kennett Brothers’ fundraising efforts and enthusiasm from Reefton locals. The Waiuta section was infamously tough during the inaugural Tour Aotearoa in 2016. The Kennetts have raised an eye-watering $50,000 from 2018 TA rider donations… who will reap the benefits when they hit that stretch of track bleary-eyed in next year’s length-of-NZ mission.

DOC, with the help of NZ Defence Force resources, is scheduled to kick off the upgrade mid-October. The Ground Effect Slush Fund added $1000 to the pot for bridge and drainage materials, digger hire, and heli hours. The project is a collaborative effort between Attitude Matters, DOC, the Kennett Brothers, Friends of Waiuta and the NZ Defence Force. We’ll keep you updated.
