▸ Washing

  • All Ground Effect clothing enjoys a warm 40ºC machine wash. Try to avoid cold-water detergents and those with bleach, 'oxygen whitener' or fabric softener.
    • The cold-water varieties have little enzymes that are super-charged to brave the cold but can damage technical fabrics and cause skin irritation.
    • Bleach rots natural fibres like merino, strips the dye, attacks laminates of waterproof fabrics and can also cause skin irritation.
    • Sodium Percarbonate (the main ingredient in oxygen whitener) can make colours run.
    • Fabric softener and stuff containing it like wool wash destroys the water repellent finish on waterproof and water resistant fabrics, and can cause colours to run.
  • As a rule of thumb, a product that is easy on the planet is also easy on your body. Select a mild plant-based soap like EcoverEcostoreEarthwise or Aware.
  • Hand washing is sometimes the only option on tour, but a washing machine rinses more thoroughly and is preferable if you have the choice.
  • Most Ground Effect gear dries super-fast so hanging on the line or drooping over the bedpost is generally the best option. High heat can damage some fabrics so if you do take your threads for a spin, set the device on 'medium' or 'warm' rather than hot. A lap in the dryer is recommended for your rain jacket, after it has dried on the line, as it helps recharge its water repellent finish.

  • Wash colours separately.

Amazing Armadillos

No more cold arms, snug, no prickly itch and when one heats up easy removal. Excellent in a climate where it's nippy in the morning but hot by 10am. Good colour especially the wrists after releasing a jammed chain.

superb product

absolute best arm warmers for comfort and warmth looking forward to touring with them, medium was a good fit on my cyclists arms and they never once worked there way down, top piece of kit

The warmths the thing

We’re well into Spring now and I’m gradually shedding all the clutter of winter riding, shoe covers, leg warmers, beanie, the gillet and now the arm warmers. Generally I find this a very satisfying but the last discard I’m finding difficult. In the midst of winter I purchased a pair of Armadillos from Ground effect- and they’ve been my constant companion ever since- stylish and warm but not too bulky (they go under a long sleeved rain vest). I like them so much I will miss them over the next six months or so. Before next winter do yourself a favour and get yourself a pair of these little beauties.

Yay, another great buy

Love the armadillos. These are keep the chill off, but breathable so you don't get hot. If the weather changes (like it always does in AKL) these are easy to slide down or remove mid ride. They dont slide down, and are not scratchy/itchy.

I really like my armadillos because they’re warm, snugly fitting, woollen and lightweight in my cold winter climate. Instead of needing three layers, I use just one and if it warms up, I roll them down. Verdict: great value 10/10
