WindFoil™ combines the insulative benefits of a polyester micro-fleece liner with a smooth, water resistant, softshell exterior. A totally windproof, yet highly breathable membrane is sandwiched between the inner and outer fabrics providing effective protection in cold, dry conditions.
  • Composition: 100% polyester with PU membrane.
  • 100% windproof.
  • Durable water-repellent (DWR) finish on face fabric.
  • Breathability: 4000gm per sq.m per 24hr.

  • All Ground Effect clothing enjoys a warm 40ºC machine wash. Try to avoid cold-water detergents and those with bleach, 'oxygen whitener' or fabric softener.
    • The cold-water varieties have little enzymes that are super-charged to brave the cold but can damage technical fabrics and cause skin irritation.
    • Bleach rots natural fibres like merino, strips the dye, attacks laminates of waterproof fabrics and can also cause skin irritation.
    • Sodium Percarbonate (the main ingredient in oxygen whitener) can make colours run.
    • Fabric softener and stuff containing it like wool wash destroys the water repellent finish on waterproof and water resistant fabrics, and can cause colours to run.
  • As a rule of thumb, a product that is easy on the planet is also easy on your body. Select a mild plant-based soap like EcoverEcostoreEarthwise or Aware.
  • Hand washing is sometimes the only option on tour, but a washing machine rinses more thoroughly and is preferable if you have the choice.
  • Most Ground Effect gear dries super-fast so hanging on the line or drooping over the bedpost is generally the best option. High heat can damage some fabrics so if you do take your threads for a spin, set the device on 'medium' or 'warm' rather than hot. A lap in the dryer is recommended for your rain jacket, after it has dried on the line, as it helps recharge its water repellent finish.

  • Wash your gloves separately - the synthetic suede can cause havoc staining other clothing.
  • Air dry only - no dryers for these puppies.

      Warm but not too hot

These are great for my Christchurch winter commute. The gloves keep my hands nice and warm but they also seem to breathe a bit which means they don't get too sweaty inside. That makes them easier to remove and nicer to put on again. Another great GroundEffect product!

      Chipolatas gloves in cold weather

A very well made glove that fits well. Although a little tight initially they moulded to the shape of my hands after a couple of rides. They aren’t as warm or protective as I expected. Riding in zero degree mornings on my mtb I found my fingers and thumbs particularly, were feeling the cold. I think they are more a cold autumn glove rather than a true winter glove. Nevertheless, I like them.

Good gloves for Tassie Autumn & start of Winter

I bought these quite a while ago and have not needed them up until now. I am riding in Tasmania and have just started wearing them in the last 4 weeks at the end of autumn and coming into winter. They have been good so far and am able to feel the brake levers much better than other bulky gloves I've worn. They are warm at the moment but the tips of my fingers are staying cold for the beginning of my commute, so I may need to start putting some thinner gloves on under these, but i'll see how they go. I've always been pleased with the things I've bought from Ground Effect and am just about to get a submerino for my base layer in what's going to be a cold Tassie :)

      Nice Gloves

Only worn once so far. Initial review: well made, warm at 0 degrees but did take 30 min for the fingers to warm up. Sizing was off. I did measure my hands using the size chart which was in the middle range of the corresponding size. The fit was tight. I would have returned but couldn't be arsed. I'm hoping a few more wears will stretch them out. Good value for money.
