Combat winter's freezing days with this lightweight, windproof pullover. Its silky Thermostat™ fleece back keeps you cosy while the WindFoil™ front and arms take the sting out of a chilly headwind. Yet the extra long front zip lets you control your temperature on the fly. One top that does-it-all for those who like to travel light and fast.

  • WindFoil™ softshell front, sleeves and shoulders block cold winds.
  • Extra long front zip with integrated windflap.
  • 360° Hazard!™ reflectivity.
  • WhaleTail™ covers all your back all the time.
  • Rear security pocket and twin elasticised angle-pockets.
  • Secret tube repair patch.
  • Designed & made by us in Aotearoa | New Zealand.

  Weight: 300 gm

WindFoil™ combines the insulative benefits of a polyester micro-fleece liner with a smooth, highly water resistant, softshell exterior. A totally windproof, yet highly breathable membrane is sandwiched between the inner and outer fabrics providing effective protection in cold, dry conditions.
  • Composition: 100% polyester with PU membrane.
  • 100% windproof.
  • Durable water-repellent (DWR) finish on face fabric.
  • Breathability: 4000gm per sq.m per 24hr.

A non-windproof version of WindFoil™ - Thermostat™ is a lightweight, quick-drying laminated fleece with a water repellant finish. Constructed from a knitted polyester face fabric with brushed polyester fleece on the inside. Its hyper-soft finish makes it delicious to wear against your skin. Yum. Thermostat has an excellent warmth to weight ratio. For cycling, low bulk is important - both when you're wearing the garment and when it's stashed away in your back pack or pannier. The advantages of heavier fleeces are mainly for sedentary types.
  • Composition: 100% polyester
  • Durable water-repellent (DWR) finish on face fabric.

Outskirts™ garments are designed specifically for women. However If you're struggling to find exactly what you need in the Outskirts™ women's range, check out our men's products for further options. Jackets, tights and baggy tops often fit both men and women equally well. Selected products are also available in XS (approximately women's small) to provide a more complete range.

+Composite Tops
For short trips in stable weather conditions, a Ground Effect composite top lets you travel light and fast with just a single thermal layer. These designs combine a WindFoil™ front with a breathable Thermostat™ fleece or Heatwave™ Merino back. A long front zip for ventilation allows you to manage your body temperature through a wide range of conditions. Apparently you can have your cake and eat it too.

  • All Ground Effect clothing enjoys a warm 40ºC machine wash. Try to avoid cold-water detergents and those with bleach, 'oxygen whitener' or fabric softener.
    • The cold-water varieties have little enzymes that are super-charged to brave the cold but can damage technical fabrics and cause skin irritation.
    • Bleach rots natural fibres like merino, strips the dye, attacks laminates of waterproof fabrics and can also cause skin irritation.
    • Sodium Percarbonate (the main ingredient in oxygen whitener) can make colours run.
    • Fabric softener and stuff containing it like wool wash destroys the water repellent finish on waterproof and water resistant fabrics, and can cause colours to run.
  • As a rule of thumb, a product that is easy on the planet is also easy on your body. Select a mild plant-based soap like EcoverEcostoreEarthwise or Aware.
  • Hand washing is sometimes the only option on tour, but a washing machine rinses more thoroughly and is preferable if you have the choice.
  • Most Ground Effect gear dries super-fast so hanging on the line or drooping over the bedpost is generally the best option. High heat can damage some fabrics so if you do take your threads for a spin, set the device on 'medium' or 'warm' rather than hot. A lap in the dryer is recommended for your rain jacket, after it has dried on the line, as it helps recharge its water repellent finish.

  • Be sure not to wash with socks, fluffy towels or flannelette sheets. Lint clings to the fleece on the inside of your top making it age before its time.

    Great winter jacket

Really like this winter jacket and as the front panel is an effective wind breaker have only needed a light merino top underneath

A well designed jacket - amazing warmth from wind stop and fleece fabric . Sadly the largest women’s size - women’s XL was too small across my shoulder and tight in the arm hole - also very snug around the waist ! I returned the top and purchased the men’s version in size XL! It is OK - a little long in the sleeves and not quite the cut I would prefer. I have enjoyed wearing the m3ns top an$ find it comfortable and warm . Will you consider making a women’s XXL size ? PLEASE!,, Love my new Women’s leggings - they fit and are very comfortable and warm. Overall I think you make excellent products fit for NZ environments - good fabrics that last the distance . Keep up the good design and manufacture Regards Pam O’Donnell

    Ground Effect

Hi there Pam, thanks for your review. We appreciate your feedback and will definitely pass it on to the design team. We are beginning to change our womens sizing to the more common system of 8-10-12... etc. In doing this there will be a few changes to the sizes including a slightly smaller and a larger option. Hopefully this will work for you. Pedal on, Ernie.

    Ice Queen

I bought Ground Effect items approximately 15’years ago and they are still going strong after frequent use. The Ice Queen I recently purchased did not disappoint in terms of fit and the quality of the finish. It does the job perfectly on cold days and the super long zip makes it versatile if you need to cool down or easy to whip off over your helmet. Amazing quality!

Ice Queen for New Zealand Winter

We could not return to Las Vegas, so over seventies Grandma purchased an Ice Queen to keep out the Wellington winter winds. Now she smiles as she cycles into a Wellington Southerly.
