Jetson (2016)

2

21st century garb for cresting the col or jetting around with Elroy. The Jetson vest protects your torso from the wind and cold. Layer against a headwind, wriggle on for an adrenalin charged descent or shove in your rear pocket as insurance against plummeting temperatures.

    • Zipped chest pocket for storing shades and tunes.
    • 360 Hazard!™ reflectivity.
    • Rear security pocket and twin elasticised angle-pockets.
    • WhaleTail™ cut keeps your back covered.
    • Secret tube repair patch.
    • Made by us in New Zealand.
  • WindFoil™ combines the insulative benefits of a polyester micro-fleece liner with a smooth, highly water resistant, softshell exterior. A totally windproof, yet highly breathable membrane is sandwiched between the inner and outer fabrics providing effective protection in cold, dry conditions.
    • Composition: 100% polyester with PU membrane.
    • 100% windproof.
    • Durable water-repellent (DWR) finish on face fabric.
    • Breathability: 4000gm per sq.m per 24hr.

A non-windproof version of WindFoil™ - Thermostat™ is a lightweight, quick-drying laminated fleece with a water repellant finish. Constructed from a knitted polyester face fabric with brushed polyester fleece on the inside. Its hyper-soft finish makes it delicious to wear against your skin. Yum. Thermostat has an excellent warmth to weight ratio. For cycling, low bulk is important - both when you're wearing the garment and when it's stashed away in your back pack or pannier. The advantages of heavier fleeces are mainly for sedentary types.
    • Composition: 100% polyester
    • Durable water-repellent (DWR) finish on face fabric.

    ▹ Composite Tops

For short trips in stable weather conditions, a Ground Effect composite top lets you travel light and fast with just a single thermal layer. These designs combine a WindFoil™ front with a breathable Thermostat™ fleece or Heatwave™ Merino back. A long front zip for ventilation allows you to manage your body temperature through a wide range of conditions. Apparently you can have your cake and eat it too.

    ▹ Hazard!™

Night travel is a spooky experience. Many Ground Effect garments feature our Hazard!™ reflective logo and piping to help remind traffic that we're on the road too.

    ▹ WhaleTail™

Ground Effect tops are cut with extra length in the back... and in the sleeves too. So when you stretch out in search of the perfect downhill position, neither your shirttail or sleeves will ride-up to expose your back or wrists to the elements.

    ▹ More than Kiwi Made

Ground Effect clothing is crafted right here in New Zealand. Has been ever since we started back in 1994. Manufacturing locally works for us. We operate a quick-response system - holding minimal stock of any one item, but churning out a few more quick-smart when the pile gets low. The upshot is that we are seldom caught with our shelves empty, so orders get despatched the same day you place them.

    ▹ Weight

    Garment Weight: 250 gm
    • All Ground Effect clothing enjoys a warm 40ºC machine wash. Try to avoid cold-water detergents and those with bleach, 'oxygen whitener' or fabric softener.
      • The cold-water varieties have little enzymes that are super-charged to brave the cold but can damage technical fabrics and cause skin irritation.
      • Bleach rots natural fibres like merino, strips the dye, attacks laminates of waterproof fabrics and can also cause skin irritation.
      • Sodium Percarbonate (the main ingredient in oxygen whitener) can make colours run.
      • Fabric softener and stuff containing it like wool wash destroys the water repellent finish on waterproof and water resistant fabrics, and can cause colours to run.
    • As a rule of thumb, a product that is easy on the planet is also easy on your body. Select a mild plant-based soap like Ecover, Ecostore, Earthwise or Aware.
    • Hand washing is sometimes the only option on tour, but a washing machine rinses more thoroughly and is preferable if you have the choice.
    • Most Ground Effect gear dries super-fast so hanging on the line or drooping over the bedpost is generally the best option. High heat can damage some fabrics so if you do take your threads for a spin, set the device on 'medium' or 'warm' rather than hot. A lap in the dryer is recommended for your rain jacket, after it has dried on the line, as it helps recharge its water repellent finish.

Michael

Jetson , the previous two jetsons I have had were fantastic, this one was made from different material and different material again on the back and was not hi vis. Would not recommend this version of the jetson

Ground Effect

Hi Michael. The latest iteration of the Jetson is a thermal rather than a shell. We've probably confused things a tad by calling it the same name. Sorry about that. Always happy to refund if it's not quite what you had in mind. Ernie

Wellington windstopper

First test ride in a dark strong northerly in Wellington. Warm but not too hot. Great for an hour ride before work. Handled the unexpected showers nicely too. Looking forward to putting the GE last NF sleeve jackets away and grabbing the Jetson again. Perfect for spring early morning rides. Thanks GE team!
