The Grand Loop

The top of the South Island, with the Old Ghost Road and Heaphy Track, has rapidly become a hot destination for backcountry cyclists. Like many good ideas, this one - to link these classic tracks in a grand loop - was thrown about over a few beers at Damian Stones' local bike shop in Richmond, Nelson. Eric Hall joined Damian to complete the 6 day adventure in mid-winter on gravel bikes. Impressive snowfall on the OGR and Eric taking his first tilt at bikepacking added colour and challenge to the journey.
