The Ruapehu Mountain Bike Club and Ohakune 2000 in partnership with the local iwi - Ngati Rangi have recently signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of the Ohakune Bike Park. The design for the pump track has been inspired by the wing shape of the local puriri moth, which lives in the low-mountain range. The track has been named Te Pepe 'The Moth' and aligned with the National Cycleway Nga Haerenga www.nzcycletrail.com return loop track proposal, currently before the Ministry of Economic Development. The Ground Effect slush fund sent a cheque for $1000 to pay for truck and digger hire to clear the site.
