Coal Pit Spur - Craigieburn

01 November 2013

The Craigieburn Forest Park track network lies just an hour and a half (by car) west of Christchurch in the foothills of the Southern Alps. A blend of high country and beech forest singletrack, it is outrageously good mountain biking in a stunning location.

Our friends the Castle Hill Community Association, with the support of the Department of Conservation have put the finishing touches to the dual use trail network linking Castle Hill Village with Flock Hill. The Coal Pit Spur Track was the final piece in this puzzle and Ground Effect volunteered to cut a new 2km section of trail.

In 2013 a great bunch of Ground Effect customers got hot and sweaty blazing the trail on a sunny Canterbury High Country day. All the info on building and riding the trails can be found at Craigieburn Trails. Fast forward to 2015 and the Slush Fund wrote a cheque for $1000 to purchase shingle to ensure the track is open year round.

Check out the The Missing Link video to get a taste of what a Ground Effect work party day is all about.
