Heathcote Valley Mountain Biking

08 September 2020

A group of keen Heathcote Valley mountain bikers are setting up a mtb skills park in the valley. The plan is to develop a fun safe place where riders of all ages and abilities can meet and play. The trails and features will allow people to progress their skills. Conservation planting, signage and seating are also part of plan. Work is being completed by a bunch of volunteers.

So far over 300m³ of clay has been imported to create over 50 features from beginner to advanced skill levels. Feature No. 50 is a 1.5m high Step Down named Bob. The table tops were shaped up over the July school holidays. There is strong interest in creating a ‘trials' area. Over 1500m² of mulch has been spread to help restore the native planting underway. The BBQ tables are being used.

The Slush Fund helped out with $1000 cash to purchase trees, lime chip, tools, pipe, wood and cement. Other local support has come from Gravity Canterbury, Port Hills Earthmoving, KB Contracting & Trees for Canterbury.
