Sometimes you need long pants for banging around on weekend errands or for riding to work, particularly if it's cold, and these are the pants for the job. They're made from super-tough nylon fabric (that still has a cotton canvas feel) and are constructed with all the utility aspects you'll want. The knees are articulated for better bending, there's no central seam to sit on, the rear waist is high and a stretch panel across the small of the back gives ease of movement while maintaining a snug fit. The rear pocket is zippered. They are great purely as pants but for longer rides Ground Effect make Underdogs mesh liner knicks. These are more breathable than ordinary lycra knicks. Durable and comfortable on the bike and off.
I recently purchased my ranshsliders No.3 Pair No 2. were wearing out after a decade of daily punishment. I ordered pair No.3 late on a Friday and was surprised they arrived the following morning. I was a tad worried by the choice of colour but bitter brown is much more agreeable than it sounds. Initially I thought I would miss the zipped side pockets of the previous ranchsliders until I concluded the zips were mostly left open. The new ranchsliders are incredibly comfortable and don't need constant hitching up. They are also sufficiently stylish o wear when one wishes to appear casually tidy. I have worn them daily for two weeks. I suspect they will be good for another 518 weeks.
Bought my ranchsliders at the start of last winter. They're in their second season now and they still look great so expect many more to come. These are perfect for my daily commute (15kms each way) on those cold Wellington winter days. Haven't needed thermals under them, even on the freezing morning last week. I'm 188cms tall and 85kgs. Medium was a bit short and tight. I settled for large which fit for length and waist but are a bit full in the leg, not a big deal but would have preferred a slimmer fit. I added a second dome to shorten the cuff further, with the original they still got caught in the chain. These are great pants, if I ruined them tomorrow I'd order another pair before the end of the day.
recently I had the pleasure of purchasing my second pair of ranchsliders after the zip failed on my first pair. This might seem like an incongruous opening to the review given the title but allow me to elaborate... I bought my first pair about two years ago, and they were my only pair of casual trousers. I wore them every day to commute to work in, and then worked all day in them in the workshop in my lbs. I wore them for miles of riding in the mornings before work, after work and as much of the weekend as the missus would let me spend on the bike! They were pressed into service as a hand towel, tool rack, cat toy, the list goes on! Any pair of trousers I've had in the past has survived around 1-2months of this life, and the ranchsliders lasted almost 24 times as long, in fact, once I retired them they have been pressed into service as pirate trousers for fancy dress. So when I ordered this new pair I had high expectations, coupled with the classic first date jitters. Initially I was disappointed that there was no black option, but I needed trousers, I had no more casual trousers after the demise of my first pair! I needent have worried though, it's a very dark brown and you can rest assured they carry stains as well as the black pairs!!!!! I was interested to see what changes and improvements have been made and I've noticed a few (I'm sure there are a lot more) they've added a second set of leg poppers to further fine tune the flap at the bottom (although they missed the trick of swapping the top two around so you can use them to convert the trousers into 3/4 length) the fabric is much heavier duty, I'm not sure if this is due to my old pair being worn thin or it's an actual change, I'm in two minds about this. The extra durability is great, but the originals aren't exactly lacking in that department and I'm a little concerned about losing some of the plush comfort as well as one of my favourite trouser super-powers which is pulling them wet out the washing machine, one quick flick then putting them on, riding to work and arriving in dry trousers. I have not tested this yet, so my worries might be unfounded. Finally, and it's a biggie. The old ones were pretty generous; I've dropped some weight and was considering going down a side, I'm glad I didn't as they are a lot more snug that the originals. So be aware if you're replacing an old pair. Now bear in mind that I'm a cantankerous ******* who doesn't like change at the best of times, so I will complain about anything new. Even so I love my new pair, and would recommend them to anyone wanting a set of trousers. Not just cycling trousers, but trousers.
This is the forth incarnation of these resilient and stylish hard wearing pants. I use them both on my casual rides and part of my work uniform. (I’m a Personal trainer) they allow me the total movement and feel natural when riding out and about. Great for chilly mornings and if you choose chuck them over your thermal tights. An excellent choice as part of your commuting wear that will keep you warm while enjoying the ride. In addition the bottom cuffs are able to be adjusted in preventing chain rub. The cost of these pants given the many features makes it an easy purchase compared to other lesser products around.
