+Washing

  • All Ground Effect clothing enjoys a warm 40ºC machine wash. Try to avoid cold-water detergents and those with bleach, 'oxygen whitener' or fabric softener.
    • The cold-water varieties have little enzymes that are super-charged to brave the cold but can damage technical fabrics and cause skin irritation.
    • Bleach rots natural fibres like merino, strips the dye, attacks laminates of waterproof fabrics and can also cause skin irritation.
    • Sodium Percarbonate (the main ingredient in oxygen whitener) can make colours run.
    • Fabric softener and stuff containing it like wool wash destroys the water repellent finish on waterproof and water resistant fabrics, and can cause colours to run.
  • As a rule of thumb, a product that is easy on the planet is also easy on your body. Select a mild plant-based soap like Ecostore, Earthwise or Aware.
  • Hand washing is sometimes the only option on tour, but a washing machine rinses more thoroughly and is preferable if you have the choice.
  • Most Ground Effect gear dries super-fast so hanging on the line or drooping over the bedpost is generally the best option. High heat can damage some fabrics so if you do take your threads for a spin, set the device on 'medium' or 'warm' rather than hot. A lap in the dryer is recommended for your rain jacket, after it has dried on the line, as it helps recharge its water repellant finish.

  • Wash colours separately.

      Winter road riding in Victoria

I recently bought a pair of Daddy Long Legs for winter road riding in Victoria. I am 1.75m tall, weigh 80kg and bought the medium size. They fit really well over cycling shorts and keep me really warm in temperatures just above freezing. There are no seams where there shouldn’t be and the ankle zips are a nice touch. I have only worn and washed them 3 times and ridden about 400km in them so I can’t really comment on the durability yet but I am really pleased with the quality. I would highly recommend these tights to anyone who feels the cold and who might hit the snooze button in winter months instead of observing Rule #5 http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/#5

      Warm and comfy

Warmth: excellent, toasty warm but not too hot. Can comfortably ride and run in these during Dunedin winter without overheating. The zips also mean if they were to get too hot can easily unzip and fold up as required. Features: zips good as mentioned above. Double layer at knees for extra warmth works well. Only let-down is the pocket, which is on the inside of the waist at the back and quite large. I find it's not very secure/reliable and things fall out as soon as pulling them off/on. Fit: these are advertised as unisex fit. I often find this a cop-out option as usually unisex stuff doesn't allow for any curves women may have. These are an exception and fit to me as if they could have been female specific. Fit seems true to the sizing chart. Overall very happy. Just the design of the pocket could be improved.

      Kills the Chills

First up, the Daddy long legs are well made, warm and moisture wicking. Have been using them over the past couple of weeks for South Island mid-winter evening rides that freeze your eye lids open and they perform really well. The **** the wind chill and even keep you warm when it's raining. Secondly, I initially ordered the wrong size, completely my fault (I got a Medium and I'm 6ft4in). Sent it back with the handy form and within 2 days I had the upsized tights. Awesome service!

I just love the Daddy Long Legs- they keep me toasty warm when I am out riding on these cold frosty mornings. I especially love the extra padding over the knees- makes them doubly warm!
