The Pohutukawa Coast Bike Club is the largest mtb club in Auckland, based in the Maraetai/Whitford Forest area east of Auckland. They have formal access permission from forest management to build tracks. The trails are a mixture of grade 2 family tracks, DH, an epic XC or two and a jump/pump track.
The Ground Effect Slush Fund fired the club $2000 cash to help re-build the 'Ground Effect' track after recent logging. We first contributed $1000 to the track build for digger hire back in 2012. Check the track out on www.pinkbike.com.
We enjoyed their summary of a recent work party: “Unfortunately we had a builder and a bridge Civil Engineer turn up to the working bee so instead of the usual PCBC 'she’ll be right, dodgy timber, built over a fallen log with a kink in the middle’ bridge we have a perfectly square, code compliant, could drive a car over it, work of art. Where has the romance of mountain biking gone?!”
