FAQ | Freight

Orders are generally packed and sent the same day your order is received. Click for delivery details to where you live.

▹ Within New Zealand

  • Orders are delivered to you by Courier Post the very next day.
  • Delivery to your work or a PO Box is most secure.
  • You are not required to sign for the package.
  • Rural Delivery generally takes a couple of days.
  • Allow NZ$7 per order for freight charges.

▹ To Australia

You have a choice of Tracked Airmail or FedEx Courier.
Tracked Airmail
  • Takes about a week.
  • Delivery to your work or a PO Box is most secure.
  • You are not required to sign for the package.
  • Allow NZ$7 per order for the postie.
  • For a small extra cost FedEx Courier is reliably faster if you are in a rush.
FedEx Courier
  • Overnight into Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, and two working days for Adelaide, Brisbane or Perth.
  • Allow 3-4 working days for addresses outside the main cities.
  • FedEx can only deliver to physical addresses, NOT PO Boxes.
  • Parcels need to be signed for. Someone should be lurking around home or work to leave their thumbprint. Otherwise a card will be left in your letterbox with contact details so you can arrange redelivery.
  • Our shopping cart calculates the cost based on total weight - normally quite reasonable at around NZ$14-19. Remote addresses incur a hefty out-of-zone surcharge making them less attractive.

Airmail
  • Takes 1-2 weeks.
  • Delivery to your work or a PO Box is most secure.

  • FedEx can only deliver to physical addresses, NOT PO Boxes.
  • Parcels need to be signed for. Someone should be lurking around home or work to leave their thumbprint. Otherwise a card will be left in your letterbox with contact details so you can arrange redelivery.
  • Our shopping cart calculates the cost based on total weight – around NZ$18-24.
Local Taxes

Depending on where you hang your hat, you may end up paying local taxes and/or duties plus an admin fee when the package arrives. Ground Effect subsidises the shipping cost to help alleviate that.

  • USA: There is a NZ$1000 (US$800) order value tax threshold. So most parcels skip in under the radar. Wahoo.
  • UK: You'll probably have to pay VAT and a handling fee to Royal Mail or FedEx.  If so, with airmail you'll receive a 'Fee to Pay' card before Royal Mail releases your parcel. There are options for online payment or collection from your local Delivery Office. More details at www.royalmail.com or 0845 605 0767.
  • Rest of World: Canada and continental Europe are particularly stroppy about collecting taxes. Other destinations are more random.
