Agent Orange

  Weight: 120 gm

Gossamer-light Pertex® shell fabric weighing just 49 gsm. Tightly woven 20 denier semi-dull nylon blocks wind while a water repellent finish resists light drizzle. There is no coating for enhanced breathability. Mini ripstop weave with slight mechanical stretch ensures a performance fit.
  • Composition: 100% nylon.

Night travel is a spooky experience. Many Ground Effect garments feature our Hazard!™ reflective logo and piping to help remind traffic that we're on the road too.

Ground Effect tops are cut with extra length in the back... and in the sleeves too. So when you stretch out in search of the perfect downhill position, neither your shirttail or sleeves will ride-up to expose your back or wrists to the elements.

+More than Kiwi Made
Ground Effect clothing is crafted right here in Aotearoa | New Zealand. Has been ever since we started back in 1994. Manufacturing locally works for us. We operate a quick-response system - holding minimal stock of any one item, but churning out a few more quick-smart when the pile gets low. The upshot is that we are seldom caught with our shelves empty, so orders get despatched the same day you place them.

  • All Ground Effect clothing enjoys a warm 40ºC machine wash. Try to avoid cold-water detergents and those with bleach, 'oxygen whitener' or fabric softener.
    • The cold-water varieties have little enzymes that are super-charged to brave the cold but can damage technical fabrics and cause skin irritation.
    • Bleach rots natural fibres like merino, strips the dye, attacks laminates of waterproof fabrics and can also cause skin irritation.
    • Sodium Percarbonate (the main ingredient in oxygen whitener) can make colours run.
    • Fabric softener and stuff containing it like wool wash destroys the water repellent finish on waterproof and water resistant fabrics, and can cause colours to run.
  • As a rule of thumb, a product that is easy on the planet is also easy on your body. Select a mild plant-based soap like EcostoreEarthwise or Aware.
  • Hand washing is sometimes the only option on tour, but a washing machine rinses more thoroughly and is preferable if you have the choice.
  • Most Ground Effect gear dries super-fast so hanging on the line or drooping over the bedpost is generally the best option. High heat can damage some fabrics so if you do take your threads for a spin, set the device on 'medium' or 'warm' rather than hot. A lap in the dryer is recommended for your rain jacket, after it has dried on the line, as it helps recharge its water repellent finish.

  • Items are generally packed and sent the same day your order is received.
  • Costs $7 by overnight courier within New Zealand.
  • NZ$7 by tracked airmail to Australia.
  • Around NZ$15-25 by tracked airmail to destinations elsewhere in the world - calculated in our shipping cart as you check out.
    • More shipping and tax details in our FAQ.

      Comfortable, light and practical

Quite a snug fit so had to exchange it for a larger size (many thanks to Ground Effect for exchanging it without cost). The vest is light and very comfortable to wear (my cycling often involves long, all-day rides). The number and location of the pockets make the vest very practical; the vest is still comfortable even when all pockets are used. The 'Napoleon pocket' (breast pocket) is very useful for the mobile phone or small camera (all vests/jackets should have one, I think). The colour adds to safety aspects. If a large enough size is purchasedf the vest can also be used over Winter-riding gear.

      Ground Effect Spectre

The “Spectre” vest recently purchased is my second one, the first is still serviceable and works fine as an over the top light weight vest to keep the wind out but over the years has become rather dirty after many muddy off road rides. The new one now I keep exclusively for on road commuting rides to keep the wind out and more importantly to help keep me visible to oncoming and from behind vehicular traffic. I like the yellow as it goes with my blue “Frosty Boy” jacket to show my support for Ukraine.

Finally found what I was looking for

I've been searching for a vest with pockets, no mesh on the back, and fits me for ages. Bonus is it's not black so very visible.

      Practical bit of kit

I keep this in my backpack and throw it on when the temperature drops a little. It is light but still provides some good protection. I find it does well over a light top in the 14-10 degrees range when the sun has dropped. I also like the bright colour, which is important for safety. It takes hardly any space so it is easy to pack into a pocket.
