Hard wearing and quick drying nylon fabric. Super stretchy for a closer, performance fit. Tight double weave 'looped' construction combines bulletproof durability with next to skin comfort.
  • Composition: 89% nylon; 11% lycra.

+Easy-Rider™
Stretch hip panels and Trim Tabs™ keep Ground Effect baggies hitched up. Intelligent design reduces surplus fabric for a smoother and therefore more comfortable interface between bum and saddle. There's also less risk of getting hooked up on technical trails.

+Luxury Liner
These baggies are supremely versatile. Add the InnuendosUnderdogs or Stowaways lycra mesh liner to deliver no-nonsense performance in the saddle. Whip ‘em out for washing or when moving into après ride mode. Winterise by using a pair of Geronimos or Montezumas three-quarter length shorts as the liner.

+More than Kiwi Made
Ground Effect clothing is crafted right here in New Zealand. Has been ever since we started back in 1994. Manufacturing locally works for us. We operate a quick-response system - holding minimal stock of any one item, but churning out a few more quick-smart when the pile gets low. The upshot is that we are seldom caught with our shelves empty, so orders get despatched the same day you place them.

+FAQ

+Baggy vs Lycra
A stretch short will always deliver more performance than a baggy number as there's no surplus fabric bunched up between your bum and the saddle. However, baggies are the default choice of battle-hardened cyclists off road, on tour and around the streets. They combine a loose but not super-baggy fit with an optional mesh liner and moulded pad... providing the performance benefits of conventional stretch shorts with minimal compromise.

+Are they water-resistant?
The Hi-Impact™ Stretch fabric has a durable water resistant treatment (DWR). While the pants are not waterproof, they do provide some short term resistant to drizzle and light rain. They are windproof, dry faster than lightening if you do happen to get caught out and are extremely hard wearing.

+Washing

  • All Ground Effect clothing enjoys a warm 40ºC machine wash. Try to avoid cold-water detergents and those with bleach, 'oxygen whitener' or fabric softener.
    • The cold-water varieties have little enzymes that are super-charged to brave the cold but can damage technical fabrics and cause skin irritation.
    • Bleach rots natural fibres like merino, strips the dye, attacks laminates of waterproof fabrics and can also cause skin irritation.
    • Sodium Percarbonate (the main ingredient in oxygen whitener) can make colours run.
    • Fabric softener and stuff containing it like wool wash destroys the water repellent finish on waterproof and water resistant fabrics, and can cause colours to run.
  • As a rule of thumb, a product that is easy on the planet is also easy on your body. Select a mild plant-based soap like EcoverEcostoreEarthwise or Aware.
  • Hand washing is sometimes the only option on tour, but a washing machine rinses more thoroughly and is preferable if you have the choice.
  • Most Ground Effect gear dries super-fast so hanging on the line or drooping over the bedpost is generally the best option. High heat can damage some fabrics so if you do take your threads for a spin, set the device on 'medium' or 'warm' rather than hot. A lap in the dryer is recommended for your rain jacket, after it has dried on the line, as it helps recharge its water repellent finish.

    An excellent set of strides

I love these shorts. The pockets do a great job of holding stuff securely without feeling bulky, fit is slim so they don’t get tangled in the bike but work nicely with knee pads and the Velcro straps have allowed my previous shorts to expand (outwards) with me. I didn’t really want to buy new shorts, I can’t bear to part with the old ones but, my eldest pair had after a number of years service, lost their ability to protect my dignity and the eyes of the general public. Thus I was forced into a purchase, fortunately the new shorts are comfortable straight out of the package. Nice work GE!

    Juggernauts Down Under.

I am very happy to report the Juggernauts are a perfect fit. I had searched high and low for a pair of shorts that would give a casual fit for cycling in . Everywhere I went in Melbourne they had pants that looked ok but were too tight. My waist is just over 100cm and I couldn't understand that there was nothing on the market for the bigger bloke. I ride an Ebike and it got me back riding at 63 yrs of age and there are plenty of blokes and ladies who would have that middle age spread and want to get some clothes that wick the sweat away , that being for bicycle riding and look good so you can go and have a coffee and or a meal on your outing. I had a mate who rides long distance and he said that every product he bought from Ground Effect did what they said they would do. So I had a look and after careful attention to the sizing chart supplied I took a chance . I was reasonable confident as Ground Effect's had a comprehensive returns setup that seemed easy enough to use. Happy customer and sold on your clothing. Thanks

    Only shorts to wear

Have had many different mtb shirts over the years but now only buy the jugs. Awesome wearing shorts that don’t fall apart after 5 rides. Thx ground effect!

    Great service

Ordering online from GE with out trying garments has always been a bit off putting for me. These were my first big item buy that fit was important for me. The first set I ordered were not quite the right size which confirmed my initial worry, but the return process was super smooth and getting another size from the GE team was a dream. Thanks a million for the great service and the great set of shorts.
