  Weight: 220 gm

Hard wearing and quick drying nylon fabric. Super stretchy for a closer, performance fit. Tight double weave 'looped' construction combines bulletproof durability with next to skin comfort.
  • Composition: 89% nylon; 11% lycra.

Stretch hip panels and Trim Tabs™ keep Ground Effect baggies hitched up. Intelligent design reduces surplus fabric for a smoother and therefore more comfortable interface between bum and saddle. There's also less risk of getting hooked up on technical trails.

+Luxury Liner
These baggies are supremely versatile. Add the InnuendosUnderdogs or Stowaways lycra mesh liner to deliver no-nonsense performance in the saddle. Whip ‘em out for washing or when moving into après ride mode. Winterise by using a pair of Geronimos or Montezumas three-quarter length shorts as the liner.

+More than Kiwi Made
Ground Effect clothing is crafted right here in New Zealand. Has been ever since we started back in 1994. Manufacturing locally works for us. We operate a quick-response system - holding minimal stock of any one item, but churning out a few more quick-smart when the pile gets low. The upshot is that we are seldom caught with our shelves empty, so orders get despatched the same day you place them.

+Baggy vs Lycra
A stretch short will always deliver more performance than a baggy number as there's no surplus fabric bunched up between your bum and the saddle. However, baggies are the default choice of battle-hardened cyclists off road, on tour and around the streets. They combine a loose but not super-baggy fit with an optional mesh liner and moulded pad... providing the performance benefits of conventional stretch shorts with minimal compromise.

+Are they water-resistant?
The Hi-Impact™ Stretch fabric has a durable water resistant treatment (DWR). While the pants are not waterproof, they do provide some short term resistant to drizzle and light rain. They are windproof, dry faster than lightening if you do happen to get caught out and are extremely hard wearing.

  • All Ground Effect clothing enjoys a warm 40ºC machine wash. Try to avoid cold-water detergents and those with bleach, 'oxygen whitener' or fabric softener.
    • The cold-water varieties have little enzymes that are super-charged to brave the cold but can damage technical fabrics and cause skin irritation.
    • Bleach rots natural fibres like merino, strips the dye, attacks laminates of waterproof fabrics and can also cause skin irritation.
    • Sodium Percarbonate (the main ingredient in oxygen whitener) can make colours run.
    • Fabric softener and stuff containing it like wool wash destroys the water repellent finish on waterproof and water resistant fabrics, and can cause colours to run.
  • As a rule of thumb, a product that is easy on the planet is also easy on your body. Select a mild plant-based soap like EcoverEcostoreEarthwise or Aware.
  • Hand washing is sometimes the only option on tour, but a washing machine rinses more thoroughly and is preferable if you have the choice.
  • Most Ground Effect gear dries super-fast so hanging on the line or drooping over the bedpost is generally the best option. High heat can damage some fabrics so if you do take your threads for a spin, set the device on 'medium' or 'warm' rather than hot. A lap in the dryer is recommended for your rain jacket, after it has dried on the line, as it helps recharge its water repellent finish.

Great pair of shorts. Would prefer pocket on RH side, or possibly each side.

    Covers the Tighties!

I used to ride around in just straight up Limousines or Geronimos. Everywhere I went, I would be in my Limos riding about. No coverings or overshorts. That's normal, right? Then I realized, I should cover up a bit more and look more casual. Not wanting to horrify family, my children, or unfortunate ferry passengers anymore, I decided that an overshort was a decent decision so I can comfortably make people less uncomfortable. I toyed with which shorts to go with from GE, and ended up on these due to their "tighter" nature and stylish look. I also didn't want a ton of pockets, and these do just nicely. Now I am no longer given a wide berth on the ferries or in public spaces, and my wife agrees to see me in public now. I really like these shorts! They're great for riding and for happy relationships. The thigh pocket perfectly fits a phone, but be warned that it is not water resistant internally to your legs (not that it's advertised as such), so sweat collects on the phone (ewww). The pocket is great for a ferry pass now! As summer approaches, I can also use the far more revealing Innuendos with these shorts and manage temps just fine. Don't worry, I haven't worn those solo. That'd end me up some place special. Summary: If you want a stylish short that can be used for year round commuting and still look respectable at the pub / cafe / record store, buy these! Get the advantage of tights, but without the revealing-ness of tights, but still be able to show off those sexy cycling quads. Combine them with Innuendos for hot days, Limos for normal days or Geronimos for cooler days and you'll be happy. Helter Skelters also fit nicely over top, too!

    Snipes have everything covered

Love these shorts - perfect fit and very considered design that does the business when I am in the saddle.

    Great, as always

I really like how these are a bit tighter fitting and stretchier than my other shorts, especially on harder efforts. I would like another pocket, but that isn’t enough to drop it a star!

Shorts should never cost this much but good gear

Only second wear and happy with the pants. I just can't give 5 stars for a pair of shorts in the vicinity of 2 pineapples.
