+Tech

+WindFoil™
WindFoil™ combines the insulative benefits of a polyester micro-fleece liner with a smooth, water resistant, softshell exterior. A totally windproof, yet highly breathable membrane is sandwiched between the inner and outer fabrics providing effective protection in cold, dry conditions.
  • Composition: 100% polyester with PU membrane.
  • 100% windproof.
  • Water repellent finish on face fabric.
  • Breathability: 4000gm per sq.m per 24hr.

+Thermostat
A non-windproof version of WindFoil™ - Thermostat™ is a lightweight, quick-drying and breathable laminated fleece with a water repellant finish. Constructed from a knitted polyester face fabric with brushed polyester fleece on the inside. Its hyper-soft finish makes it delicious to wear against your skin. Yum. Thermostat has an excellent warmth to weight ratio. For cycling, low bulk is important - both when you're wearing the garment and when it's stashed away in your back pack or pannier. The advantages of heavier fleeces are mainly for sedentary types.
  • Composition: 100% polyester
  • Water repellent finish on face fabric.

+Composite Tops
For short trips in stable weather conditions, a Ground Effect composite top lets you travel light and fast with just a single thermal layer. These designs combine a WindFoil™ softshell fleece front with a breathable Thermostat™ fleece or Lightwave™ Merino back. Some designs have a long front zip for ventilation - allowing you to manage your body temperature through a wide range of conditions. Apparently you can have your cake and eat it too.

+WhaleTail™
Ground Effect tops are cut with extra length in the back... and in the sleeves too. So when you stretch out in search of the perfect downhill position, neither your shirttail or sleeves will ride-up to expose your back or wrists to the elements.

+Washing

  • All Ground Effect clothing enjoys a warm 40ºC machine wash.
    • As a rule of thumb, a laundry product that is easy on the planet is also easy on your body. Select a mild plant-based soap like  Ecostore,Earthwise orAware.
    • Hand washing is sometimes the only option on tour, but a washing machine rinses more thoroughly and is preferable if you have the choice.
    • Avoid cold-water detergents and those with bleach, 'oxygen whitener' or fabric softener.
      • The cold-water varieties have little enzymes that are super-charged to brave the cold but can damage technical fabrics and cause skin irritation.
      • Bleach rots natural fibres like merino, strips the dye, attacks laminates of waterproof fabrics and can also cause skin irritation.
      • Sodium Percarbonate (the main ingredient in oxygen whitener) can make colours run.
      • Fabric softener and wool wash destroy the water repellent finish on waterproof fabrics, and can also cause colours to run.
    • Most Ground Effect gear dries super-fast, so hanging on the line or draped over the bedpost is generally the best option.
      • High heat can damage some fabrics so if you do take your threads for a spin in the dryer, set the device on 'medium' or 'warm' rather than hot.
      • A dryer is recommended for your rain jacket or pants, as it helps recharge the water repellant treatment on the outside of the fabric.

    • Be sure not to wash with socks, fluffy towels or flannelette sheets. Lint clings to the fleece on the inside of your top making it age before its time.

        Superb winter jacket

Having looked at the jackets on offer in the UK, although very good, a lot of them seem (to me) to be a bit too short/tight in my size for my liking, or lacking in other areas. I then remembered that many years back I bought a Ground Effect jacket that I really liked and wore it for many years, and the new Frosty Boy jacket doesn’t disappoint! Beautifully made and well thought out. Nice detailing and a comfortable fit in my size. Looking forward to using this during the winter months ahead. Highly recommended, thank you.

        Frosty Boy Jacket

Service great received a day after placing the order. The Frosty Boy jacket was a perfect fit and easier to wear than the last one as it now has a full zip. Would definately recommend this jacket.

        Frosty boy

Ok its got a 5 but I tried to give it 4.5 Ive retired my all time favourite ancient frosty boy for the new. I miss the thumb loops and personally prefer the half zip.But that’s really minor, in all I love this jacket and it does what I expect.

        Fantastic top

Windfoil fabric really works, and in combination with the front zip and more breathable black fleece fabric on back and sides, it's easy to control the sweat. While the top does have reflective trimming, it would be nice to have brighter colours at the back for greater visibility in traffic, other than that it's spot on 5/5
