Ok its got a 5 but I tried to give it 4.5 Ive retired my all time favourite ancient frosty boy for the new. I miss the thumb loops and personally prefer the half zip.But that’s really minor, in all I love this jacket and it does what I expect.
Windfoil fabric really works, and in combination with the front zip and more breathable black fleece fabric on back and sides, it's easy to control the sweat. While the top does have reflective trimming, it would be nice to have brighter colours at the back for greater visibility in traffic, other than that it's spot on 5/5
I have been buying GE gear for 20+ yrs and have an original top from 2001. The Frosty Boy is undoubtedly the best buy I've made in those 20+ years. Warm enough for the mid winter rides (Bay of Plenty mind you) and it doesn't feel too bulky. The added feature of the full length zip (earlier models didnt have it) is a big plus for when it warms up halfway thru the ride. I'd recommend this as an almost must for all winter riding. My new favourite thing. Perfect with just a base layer for chilly/breezy conditions. Add a mid layer when it's really cold, and you're toasty. I heat up quickly on a ride, so mostly wear a thermal top and shell, enduring several minutes of chill at the start of a ride until I get comfortable. Never again! The windfoil keeps me cozy while the fleece back works well to keep the body ventilated. Love it. And the pockets! Just get one and ride.
