Chevalier Maurice-Claude de Railleur Foucalt-Croniere

This historic photograph shows Chevalier Maurice-Claude de Railleur Foucalt-Croniere, founder of la Societe du Monde Plat, embarking upon his ill-fated expedition of 1793, and making his now famous declaration: "I will cycle to the four corners of the Earth, proving that it is flat." However, old letters discovered last year during renovations to his ancestral chateau in the Loire Valley prove that he was in fact misquoted. What he actually said was: "I will cycle to the four corners of the earth, PROVIDING that it is flat."
