The South Island's West Coast has rapidly established itself as New Zealand’s premier destination for multi-day mountain biking and bikepacking. The region boasts the historic Heaphy Track at the top of the island - an iconic coast to coast trip; The Old Ghost Road (surely one of the top 10 adventure rides anywhere in in the world); the brand new (opening in December 2019) Paparoa and Pike29 Memorial Tracks; and finally, the slightly more cruisy West Coast Wilderness Trail.
