The beautiful Wingello State Forest in the Southern Highlands of NSW boasts a fun network of singletrack. There is also 50km of waymarked trail.
Back in 2014 the local trail advocacy group Highlands Trails were keen to construct a new 2km section of trail to connect the existing network. The Slush Fund injected cash for machinery hire and an operator to maintain trails after logging activity. Despite rugged terrain, a couple of challenging creek crossings and a fair bit of distance to cover, this trail took shape.
UPDATE - Much of the Wingello Forest trail network was destroyed during the 2020 bushfires that impacted much of NSW. However, after 3 years of hard work peppered with interruptions from pandemics and extreme weather events, the first stage of the new network is now open.
