In 2014 the Thames Mountain Bike Club opened their new 'Scarface Trails' - carved from the old gold mining country in the hills behind Thames. The track is based on historic sled trails used from the 1860s to transport ore to gold stamper batteries that were once operated by hundreds in the hills.
The club was guided by two great track building books sponsored by Ground Effect. All trail helpers were given a 10 page summary showing key track design features for working bees and excavator supervision, focusing on sustainable trails.
Development continues on the 'St Johns' Downhill' with the Slush Fund forking out $1000 for excavator hire - the St Johns' Depot is at the bottom of the hill!
