W.O.R.D Youth MTB Adventures

Founded in 2013 World Off-road Riding Department is a youth mountain bike charity based in Wellington, Wānaka, and Ōtautahi, Aotearoa providing amazing life changing term programmes and holiday camps for kids age 7-17 years old.

WORD are hosting their inaugural Thumb-raiser charity fundraiser event in Wellington on Sunday 26 November which includes the premiere of 'ONWORD', a documentary by Ross MacKay following original WORD kids bikepacking almost 1000km from Wellington to Wanaka. Ground Effect helped out with $2300 cash to make the project happen.

WORD rely on participant fees from our programmes, donations, and grants to operate. This ‘Thumb-raiser’ is their way of bringing the WORD Whanau together to raise funds to help keep our fees low to help more rangatahi ride bikes with WORD. Every dollar raised goes right back into WORD to continue to change the world one ride at a time!

WORD is on mission to enable growth through adventure! They are committed and passionate about creating awesome experiences to build youth confidence, develop new friendships, and foster a life-long love of mountain biking. The WORD whānau believes in equity in order to reduce the barriers to participation, embracing change through honesty and kindness, and building connections within our community and environment.
