  Slim Fit

Closer fitting tops and jackets with less flap. Typically favoured by disciples of the tarmac, intent on travelling hard and fast. Size up if you need more room. Also describes the Snug-as-a-Bug fit of Heatwave™ Merino bodywear. These tops are intended to hug your body, ensuring the fabric sits against your skin to wick sweat away - keeping you dry and not chilling out.

Night travel is a spooky experience. Many Ground Effect garments feature our Hazard!™ reflective logo and piping to help remind traffic that we're on the road too.

    ▸ More than Kiwi Made
Ground Effect clothing is crafted right here in New Zealand. Has been ever since we started back in 1994. Manufacturing locally works for us. We operate a quick-response system - holding minimal stock of any one item, but churning out a few more quick-smart when the pile gets low. The upshot is that we are seldom caught with our shelves empty, so orders get despatched the same day you place them.

    ▸ Weight

    ▸ Washing

    • All Ground Effect clothing enjoys a warm 40ºC machine wash. Try to avoid cold-water detergents and those with bleach, 'oxygen whitener' or fabric softener.
      • The cold-water varieties have little enzymes that are super-charged to brave the cold but can damage technical fabrics and cause skin irritation.
      • Bleach rots natural fibres like merino, strips the dye, attacks laminates of waterproof fabrics and can also cause skin irritation.
      • Sodium Percarbonate (the main ingredient in oxygen whitener) can make colours run.
      • Fabric softener and stuff containing it like wool wash destroys the water repellent finish on waterproof and water resistant fabrics, and can cause colours to run.
    • As a rule of thumb, a product that is easy on the planet is also easy on your body. Select a mild plant-based soap like EcoverEcostoreEarthwise or Aware.
    • Hand washing is sometimes the only option on tour, but a washing machine rinses more thoroughly and is preferable if you have the choice.
    • Most Ground Effect gear dries super-fast so hanging on the line or drooping over the bedpost is generally the best option. High heat can damage some fabrics so if you do take your threads for a spin, set the device on 'medium' or 'warm' rather than hot. A lap in the dryer is recommended for your rain jacket, after it has dried on the line, as it helps recharge its water repellent finish.

    Love my Phantom

I had the original Phantom from some years ago, so long ago can't remember when I bought it. I come from a roady background but also do adventure riding and mountain biking. The Phantom is soft compactable and beautifully made like all Ground Effect stuff. A went for a medium for a snug but comfortable fit which suits my 70kg 183cm frame. If you are a heavier build and want it solely for off-road you might want to try a large

    Great stuff

Perfect for unpredictable Wellington spring to autumn. It fills the weather gap when my Hoodwink is too warm.

    Phantom rocks.

Quite simply, the Pahantom rocks. 1st ride out following my purchase, got caught out in the rain for 45 clicks. Kept me warm and comfy on top of my GE merino cycle top. Perfect combo.....

Love the fit, function and packability.

I bought this as a lightweight, packable jacket for rides that start cold or end up in cold and windy places. Absolutely love the fit (large, I have long arms) it's light and packs down very well. Completely unobtrusive when riding and takes up minimal space in my pack. I can't decide whether I love the colour or not. But it's bright and that's why I picked it.

    Love this jacket!

I purchased the original Phantom over 15 years ago and even though I've come off multiple times on both my road and mountain bikes it's never let me down, although I was in need of a new one for riding to work so I don't look homeless when I arrive! So what else but the new Phantom - even better and lighter than the first, fits nicer and would recommend to anyone!
