The Hawkes Bay Mtb Club are well into development of the 400ha 'Mill Block' at Pan Pac Eskdale MTB Park. They are also developing the neighbouring 'Pakuratahi Valley block', specifically for DH. As they venture further into the forest there are a lot of blackberry bushes over 2m high – so makes walking through very difficult, along with ducking under unpruned 10 year old pine trees, all on steep hillside. After trialling one of the club members hedge trimmers they decided it was the tool for the job, and the Slush Fund provided the $545 required to purchase it.
The Ground Effect Slush Fund first donated cash to the Hawkes Bay Mtb Club in 2004. 11 years on we've just hit $5000 mark. Projects supported include: cash for a new map board for the Pukeora Hill Mtb Park; $1000 towards digger hire for completion the Cannonball Lector trail at Eskdale; funded the timber for three bridges and a gate for easy rider access from the carpark.
The club boasts 1900 members, the largest in the country. Follow the Hawkes Bay Mountain Bike Club on FB.
