Slush Fund

Prior to being razed by bush fires in 2003, Canberra's Stromlo Forest Park boasted some of the best and oldest mtb tracks in Australia. Following the devastating fires, the local government committed over six million bucks to reforest and re-establish the area for a variety of recreational pursuits - including mountain biking.

Serendipity visited the Milton Ulladulla District Mountain Bikers on the south coast of NSW in 2008. A landholder identified an overgrown motorbike trail and a lost trail gem was uncovered after cutting back the regrowth. The club also has a trail network at the MUD Mtb Park in Woodburn State Forest.

Back in 2011 the Slush Fund donated some hard cash to equip the trail builders forming Eagle Creek Mtb Park with the tools to help create some magic.

The Hastings Valley Mountain Bike Riders put loads of work into constructing the Port Macquarie Urban Mtb Park. Nestled in a large natural amphitheatre right in the heart of town the park provides year round riding for all abilities.

The Gravity Downhill Club in Kapiti lease a substantial chunk of local forest and have created a network of shuttle-access trails ranging from fun 'n' flowing to steep 'n' fast.

Bike Wānaka crafted the Deans Bank Track - the Albert Town to Dublin Bay loop track. 11.5 km of buffed single track ideal for short races, endurance events, and family outings.

Mt Victoria has always been a hub for mountain biking in Wellington. The Wellington Mtb Club have the oversight of Mt Vic trails, and the trail building and maintenance is lead by the Matairangi (Mt Vic) Trail Builders crew.

The Southland Mountain Bike Club have created a 15 km network of trails on Motupōhue/Bluff Hill. Way back in 2010 they completed a 4.5 km single track climb to the top of the hill proffering outrageous views of Rakiura/Stewart Island.

Manning-Great Lakes Tip Riders Mountain Bike Club is a club for riders in the Manning Valley and Great Lakes regions on the Mid North Coast of NSW, Australia. The Kiwarrak Mountain Bike Park has grown into nearly 70 km of hand-cut mountain bike specific single trail. 

In 2010 the Glacier Country Mtb Club in Franz Josef, South Westland constructed 1.7 km of flowing single track, named the Faultline Track. Fast forward to 2022 and a feasibility report into a four-day 154 km cycling trail from Ōkārito Lagoon to Fox Glacier has been released.

The Carterton Mtb Park was set up by a group of enthusiastic volunteers in 2008. Many working bees have resulted in 2.1 km of trail, two loops and a small skills area. In 2023 the Wairarapa Multisport Club organised a pre winter working bee to get the tracks back into shape.

The Golden Bay Mtb Club has churned out quality single track in the Canaan Downs Scenic Reserve over the years. The Club collaborates with Jonathan Kennett and Project Rameka, another Ground Effect Slush Fund recipient.
