The New Zealand Conservation Authority in 2012 approved mountain bike access up the Poulter Valley in Arthur's Pass National Park, after an initial three-year trial period.

The Geraldine Lions and Cycling Club have developed 20 km track on Department of Conservation land along the Orari River.

MacKenzie Country locals got together in 2008 to develop the The Lake Tekapo/Tākapo Regional Park within existing forest on the south east edge of Lake Tekapo village. The intention was to foster a range of activities including mtbing.

Kendal School in Christchurch officially opened their Community Bike Track back in March 2012. Unfortunately the school has now been closed as part of the Ministry of Educations' post earthquake school restructure in Christchurch.

Auckland Point Primary school in Nelson have a pump track in their grounds, a huge boost for the local riding scene.

In 2010 the Mid Canterbury Mtb Club were kept busy clearing 25 km of old trail next to the Ashburton/Hakatere River to create a riding trail. Now known as Mtb Ashburton the club manages three local riding areas. 

Off road biking in Marlborough keeps getting better. In March 2023 the 42 km Te Ara Tuhono Link Pathway connecting Picton to Havelock, with a side trail to Anakiwa (the trailhead of the Queen Charlotte Track) is complete.

The Blair Atholl Walkway and Cycleway is a relaxing nature walk or ride along the banks of the majestic Clutha/Mata-Au River.

The Westland Mtb Club work hard to maintain and expand the Blue Spur Tracks, all within easy biking distance of Hokitika township.

A bunch of keen Coasters back in 2011 set out to reclaim the old railway line from Ruatapu to Ross. The track is now part of the family friendly West Coast Wilderness Trail.
