South Island

During the early part of 2013, Ground Effect took on a project to extend to the Drac' Flat Track (try saying that fast after a couple of cold ones) at Craigieburn Forest Park. The Craigieburn trails lie just an hour and a half (by car) west of Christchurch in the foothills of the Southern Alps.

The Rārangi Pump Track is now, well pumping. Damian Stones and mates, with support from the Rārangi Residents Association and cash from Ground Effect have created this little piece of fun in Marlborough between Picton and Blenheim.

Sidle 73 track in the Craigieburn Forest Park was built by a great bunch of Ground Effect customers over a weekend just before Xmas in 2012. We had a blast and really enjoyed the company - a big massive thank you for all your effort - it's hard physical work blazing a trail.

Bike Methven is forever extending the popular Mt Hutt trail network, previously geared towards the gravity set.

A dedicated group of local volunteers led by Craig and Rebekah Tregurtha have created a sweet singletrack at Living Springs near Christchurch.

A few years ago with support from the local council, the Cust Dirt Jump Club crafted a jump park and children's track in the local domain.

A small band of keen mountain bikers keep busy working on the network of tracks on the Denniston Plateau, inland from Westport on the West Coast of the South Island.

Bike Wānaka crafted the Deans Bank Track - the Albert Town to Dublin Bay loop track. 11.5 km of buffed single track ideal for short races, endurance events, and family outings.

The Southland Mountain Bike Club have created a 15 km network of trails on Motupōhue/Bluff Hill. Way back in 2010 they completed a 4.5 km single track climb to the top of the hill proffering outrageous views of Rakiura/Stewart Island.

In 2010 the Glacier Country Mtb Club in Franz Josef, South Westland constructed 1.7 km of flowing single track, named the Faultline Track. Fast forward to 2022 and a feasibility report into a four-day 154 km cycling trail from Ōkārito Lagoon to Fox Glacier has been released.

The Golden Bay Mtb Club has churned out quality single track in the Canaan Downs Scenic Reserve over the years. The Club collaborates with Jonathan Kennett and Project Rameka, another Ground Effect Slush Fund recipient.

The Firepit Pump Track and Dirt Jump Park at Ngatimoti in the Motueka Valley opened in 2011. It's the ideal place to brush up your bike handling skills or add a few more tricks to your quiver.
