Big River to Waiuta Track Upgrade

In 2017 the Big River-Waiuta track received some overdue love, courtesy of the Kennett Brothers’ fundraising efforts and enthusiasm from Reefton locals. The Ground Effect Slush Fund added $1000 to the pot for bridge and drainage materials, digger hire, and heli hours.

Christchurch Singletrack Club


The Christchurch Singletrack Club have been developing mtb trails in and around Christchurch for the past 15 years. Recently much of their time has been spent developing a trail network in the Halswell area, now officially named the Crocodile XC Mtb Park. The Ground Effect Slush Fund has stepped in with $1000 cash to help with the purchase of an e-barrow.

Electric Avenue - Belmont Regional Park

Over Summer 2017 the Belmont Area Mtb Association (BAMBA) built an 800m long Grade 3 descending track, Electric Avenue, adding to the expanding mtb trail network in Belmont Regional Park, Wellington.  Short $1200 to complete the track the Ground Effect Slush Fund stepped in with the cash.

Back in 2016 the Nelson Mtb Club worked hard on the jumps in Branford Park, Maitai Valley. The Ground Effect Slush Fund helped out with $1000 towards digger and truck hire.

Motupipi Hill - Golden Bay
 

The Rata-Tui Restoration Trust is the owner of the Motupipi Hill Block in Golden Bay. The Trust had a busy 2016 building Grade 2 mountain bike tracks popular with non-technical riders. The Ground Effect Slush Fund donated $1500 cash, put to good use on digger hire to complete the La Rambla Track.

Makara Peak - Wellington

Simon Kennet, Chair of Makara Peak Supporters Inc. put the call out last year for some funds to help purchase an e-barrow for shifting dirt to build up berms and switchbacks, and gravelling. The Ground Effect Slush Fund said yes with $1000. Apparently it's made a huge difference to volunteer enthusiasm.

The Yackandandah Mtb Track network in NE Victoria has named a 17.2km trail after us, the 'Ground Effect Loop'. The Slush Fund helped out with cash for trail maps, and supplied IMBA books so they could build a sustainable network of cross-country mtb trail.
